A healthcare provider by background, I often dreamed of painting in retirement. I now call myself am Abstract Painter.

Statement

My work is intuitive. I begin a with lots of marks, splatters, shapes and two or three colors. As a piece evolves, it reveals a story, and as the narrative continues, I will refine it. I usually work on 2 or 3 paintings at a time, with one eventually becoming the dominant player that I leave the others to complete. Quiet often, the story I see in a finished piece is different from what my audience describes. I love to hear the impressions others are left with when looking at one of my paintings, and feel it is the ultimate compliment when they see their own story.

Biography

Michelle Gilmore is a retired Healthcare Provider who began painting 8 years ago. She is a self taught Abstract Painter living on the Sonoma Coast with her husband. She has studied with several abstract artists on line and in person. She had her first solo show in Calistoga , Ca in 2022. She has also participated in the Global Roots Tile Project in 2023.
